The 8-checkpoint full-reading protocol
The goal is not to produce the longest story. It is to keep a visible chain between cup evidence and symbolic language.
Photograph or sketch before rotating the cup again.
Write “angled line with a loop,” not “key,” until the raw shape is recorded.
Use one convention consistently. Zone systems belong to reading traditions; they are not validated timing instruments.
High = distinctive shape; medium = plausible but rival exists; low = generic or incomplete.
Use proximity, contact or direction. Do not connect distant symbols because their dictionary meanings fit.
Keep it thematic and present-focused.
Swap the weakest symbol label for its best alternative and see whether the story changes dramatically.
Remove unsupported claims, then end with a useful reflective question.
Worked Cup A — Threshold without prophecy
Evidence log
One-sentence read: the pair can be used as a symbolic prompt about access, readiness or conditions at a threshold.
Do not write: “A new opportunity will definitely open soon.” The cup cannot establish an external event or timing.
Reflective close: What condition would make the next step feel genuinely available rather than merely attractive?
Worked Cup B — Roots meeting motion
Evidence log
One-sentence read: tree + waves can frame a tension between what feels rooted and what is moving or changing.
Calibration note: because the anchor has a credible rival, confidence in the symbolic sentence is moderate, not high.
Reflective close: Which part of this situation needs steadiness, and which part benefits from flexibility?
Worked Cup C — Visibility, boundary, and restraint
Evidence log
One-sentence read: the cluster can prompt reflection about being seen, looking outward, or negotiating a boundary — but not about a specific person's intentions.
Firewall check: no claims about who the “person” is, whether someone is watching, or what another person will do.
Reflective close: Where do I want more visibility, and where is a boundary useful?

Interpretation Audit: five failure modes

What a worked cup can—and cannot—teach
UNESCO documents Turkish coffee culture as an intangible cultural heritage tradition and notes that grounds left in an empty cup are often used for fortune telling. Historical tasseography manuals also preserve complete example cups with principal symbols, positions and interpretive narratives.
Those records establish cultural precedent for the practice. They do not establish scientific predictive power. Cosmic Circe therefore uses worked cups to train observation, symbolic literacy and reflective interpretation, not event forecasting.

- Do not diagnose health, pregnancy, mental state or medical risk.
- Do not identify a person from letters, faces, initials or human-like forms.
- Do not claim guaranteed relationship, career, money, travel or legal outcomes.
- Do not convert numbers into confirmed dates, amounts, lottery picks or deadlines.
- Do not present frightening historical fortune meanings as warnings of death, illness or disaster.
- Do use the cup as a structured symbolic and cultural reflection exercise.

Quick questions
Should a full reading include every mark?
No. Unlabeled evidence is allowed. In fact, leaving generic marks uninterpreted is a useful skill.
How do I know when a symbol is high confidence?
Use visual distinctiveness: multiple defining features, a stable outline and fewer plausible rivals. Confidence describes the label, not supernatural accuracy.
What if my rival read changes everything?
Lower confidence. If one ambiguous shape controls the entire story, the story is too fragile to state strongly.
Can worked examples validate fortune telling?
No. They can teach a historical-symbolic practice and a disciplined interpretation workflow, but they do not demonstrate predictive ability.
